  8. Background

  11.      I shied away from Dcopy as a utility program when the  author 
  12. (RW)  denounced Twister/skewed formatting.  As a member of the  DC 
  13. Format team,  I found this to be completely  ludicrous.  So,  when 
  14. Larry  Novak  consulted me on disassemblers for a  project  I  was 
  15. hesitant  at  first.  But,  after  using  its  assembly-coded  arc 
  16. utilities  I  realized that this program was far superior  to  the 
  17. regular arc - ARC.TTP.  Since then,  I've beta tested the  updates 
  18. created by LN and haven't gone back to the regular arc once.

  21. Shell

  24.      After playing around with Dcopy for a few months,  I  decided 
  25. to try and adapt it to the mouse. Looking at the input routines in 
  26. Dcopy,  I found a solution and began a menu shell.  Work commenced 
  27. on harmonizing both programs graphically,  functionally,  and  for 
  28. future  updates.  The finished product is Dcopy Shell- a  "simple" 
  29. GEM  menu-based  program that takes care of input for  Dcopy  3.xx 
  30. while using <10K.
  31.  
  32.      All text-based menu selections are found in the GEM menu.  To 
  33. allow compatibility,  keystrokes are passed through as normal. Menu 
  34. selections  are  substituted  by their  equivalent  keystroke  and 
  35. passed  to the program.  Accessories are now accessible under  the 
  36. menu bar posing "no" problems within Dcopy- thus adding additional 
  37. options not allowed before!

  43.      I  was  informed  that  Larry  couldn't  "legally"  ask   for 
  44. donations  rewarding  his efforts.  So I am  pursuing  a  backdoor 
  45. approach, which will hopefully benefit both of us.

  47.      A  suggested donation of $15 or more is being  solicited  for 
  48. Dcopy Shell.  In return,  you will receive an exclusive version of 
  49. Dcopy  that has an integrated shell,  one  file.   This  exclusive 
  50. version will run either as an accessory OR a program.

  52.      Your contribution will be apportioned as follows:
  53.           10% for mailouts
  54.           60% to Larry Novak
  55.           30% to Keith Gerdes

  58. Updates

  61. Steps have been taken to ensure that future updates of Dcopy  will 
  62. be "fully" compatible with Dcopy Shell and vice versa.

  64. Registered users will be informed of their update procedure in the 
  65. first mailout.
